Gwen Stefani joked Wednesday that boyfriend and 'The Voice' co-star Blake Shelton committed the ultimate Valentine's Day sin: "He forgot!" she said on NBC's 'Today Show.' "No, I'm just kidding. I got some beautiful flowers, lots of texts."
The couple spent the holiday apart, as Stefani is in New York promoting the show's upcoming season and Shelton is currently in his home state of Oklahoma.
Stefani admitted she wasn't sure if filming would be uncomfortable for her and Shelton, who confirmed their relationship more than a year ago but had yet to appear on the show as a couple.
"I was nervous at first. I was like, wait, is this going to be awkward? How am I going to act?" she said. "But it's just natural."
Even so, Stefani said, mixing work and personal lives has made for some touchy situations given the competitive nature of the show. Although there are perks to dating a fellow judge -- "I've learned a lot about country music just in the last year through him," she said -- the sabotage suspicion is always on high.
"Sometimes ... we're driving home, and I'm like, 'Do you think I should put [contestants] together? And them I'm like, wait, I'm not going to talk to you about this!" she said. "I don't know if you're the enemy or -- this is confusing!"
Among other shake-ups in the hit show's 12th season is a lowered age limit. Contestants can now be as young as 13 years old.
"They're so talented, it's hard to remember they're that age," Stefani said. "It's unbelievable."
